Hello,

These posts are so helpful!

Could you please let me know if I should get a rail pass for my itinerary? I thought I would start it from the 21st for 7 days.
3 adults (one 14yo) and one child (11)

20/01/2025 Arrive Tokyo (Haneda) 20:15. Accommodation in Taito City
21/01/2025 Explore Tokyo - national museum, yoyogi park, shibuya,
22/01/2025 Explore Tokyo - TeamLab
23/01/2025 Travel to Yamanochi, Shimotakai District, Nagano. Snow monkeys
24/01/2025 Travel to Kyoto
25/01/2025 Kyoto - Koka
26/01/2025 Kyoto Explore kyoto - ? bamboo forest
27/01/2025 Kyoto - day trip to Hiroshima
28/01/2025 Kyoto to Tokyo (Haneda)

Can we use the rail pass for the trip from Nagano to Kyoto around the north through Toyama and Kanazawa?
Thank you for any information!

Hi there,

Apologies for the late reply. Yes, for your itinerary I'd certainly recommend purchasing a JR Pass. It follows a common itinerary that we recommend purchasing a pass for, where you start in Tokyo and then visit Kyoto/Osaka with a day trip to Hiroshima, and then return to Tokyo.

The JR Pass will also cover Shinkansen travel from Nagano to Kyoto and will cover all JR-operated railway lines in general, including around the north.

Kind regards,

Alexis
