Hello,
I'd like to know is it worth getting 3 regional JR Passes. West/Central and East in order to use for free the Shinkansen Hikari from Kyoto to Tokyo. We will spend 2 days in Osaka, 2 in Kyoto. The rest of the holiday we will spend in cities covered by the JR East Pass. So what is the best option. We are wondering to buy an East JR Pass only since we will be 7 days visiting towns and villages and sights in that region covered by EAST JR PASS. Have in mind that we will travel from Kyoto to Tokyo with the Shinkansen Hikari for sure but we are not sure is it worth to buy the other 2 regional passes. Please advise us. We are looking for your response.
Osaka-Tokyo Jr Pass
Hi there,
There is no regional pass that includes the Hikari from Kyoto to Tokyo. I recommend using a normal JR Pass in case you make a return on this route.
Kind regards,
Daniel
Hey,
What do you mean with normal? Jr East that covers Tokyo, Nagano etc. Our trip will be pretty much in that east area. But still we will travel from Kyoto to Tokyo by hikari for sure. On our way back we won't go back to Kyoto or Osaka. Our return flight is from Tokyo.
Kind regards,
Stan
Normal, as in a normal ticket - opposite to buying a pass.
A 7-day JR Pass will be the best option if you can include all those Shinkansen trips. Otherwise, I would compare the price of the routes you plan to travel vs the cost of each individual pass and see if you can make savings that way.
