Hi Mr Daniel-San,

If you may kindly give me your insightful and useful input (based on my trip plan) according to My up coming central Japan trip in April 2025 itinerary is as follows:-

10/4/ - Fly in Nagoya by SQ arriving 0900am. (Nagoya castle, cherry blossom 🌸 viewing, nearby places of interests) I notice JR rail not usable in Nagoya airport to Nagoya city & also within the city except traveling out of Nagoya central station)

+11/4 - Nagoya (Gifu or nearby Takayama areas) start of +5-day Takayama Hokuriku area tourist JR rail pass usage for bus routes townships & places of interests in Hida areas)

+12/4 - Nagoya to KagaOnsen - visit KagaOnsen nearby Onsen places of interests)

+13/4 - KagaOnsen (Kanazawa - castle ,, gardens & city areas)0Fukui & nearby)

+14/4 - KagaOnsen to Toyama - last day usage of Takayama Hokuriku area JR rail tourists pass) see Toyama castle & city areas

15/4 - Toyama - start of #5-days Alpine Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route & Matsumoto tourists pass (may reserve to visit Tateyama if successful on this opening day of the alpine route)

16/4 - Toyama - may use JR Rail tourists pass to HIDA Furukawa, HIDA Hagiwara (if reservation of alpine route is unsuccessful on 15/4, may swap to visit this day or vise versa)

17/4 - Toyama to Takayama (see Old town of Takayama & nearby areas)

18/4 - Takayama (use JR rail tourists pass to (Kiso valley & Matsumoto via Nagoya)

+19/4 - Takayama (to purchase another 5-days Takayama Hokuriku area pass to use for Gujo Hashiman, Gukayama & Shirakawago areas)

+20/4 - Takayama to Gero Onsen (continue usage of 5-days Takayama Hokuriku area JR rail tourists pass) to visit other nearby areas in Gero

+21/4 - Gero Onsen & nearby or if earlier days not able to cover all of Shiragawago can swap to this day)

+22/4 - Gero Onsen to Nagoya

+23/4 - Nagoya to Singapore

As i wish to catch the Tateyama alpine route openings on 15/4 & also to have chances of considering other days (16/7) - I only have these two days window period up to Tateyama alpine route, this, with the JR rail tourists pass of Takayama Hokuriku area pass split into two parts of 5-days each - total 10 days (first, from 11/4 to 15/4, second from 19/4 to 23/4) with a single 5-days Alpine Takayama Matsumoto area tourists pass in overlapping in between (from 15/4 to 19/4 so as to use the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route inclusion in this pass), I will be most thankful if you can advise me further.

I Aldo notice, some websites for booking n reservations of this JR rail tourists pass (especially the 5-days Alpine Takayama Matsumoto area tourists pass) are still unavailable for bookings (may be not yet release for bookings for foreigners), when & how, what should I do?

Thankful for your first hand heads up info to help me complete my bookings & reservations for all trains & buses tourists passes.

Hi there,

Alexis here. Please note that you are not allowed to use more than one regional pass at the same time. I think instead of buying an Alpine tourist pass, you purchase tickets for the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route separately so you can keep the JR Pass running in the background. If you plan to reconsider things, the Alpine Pass is available on our webpage here.

Other than that, your itinerary is very well constructed and thought through, good luck and enjoy your trip? Any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

Alexis
