Hi Andrea,
It depends on what you wish to do in the area around Fuji. There are 3 Shinkansen stations that offer a beautiful view on Fuji The order is (Tokyo) (Kyoto). Odawara is the station for Hakone, Mishima can be used to travel from to other areas such as Gotemba and than there's Shin-Fuji which offers a nice view on Fuji but is in the middle of an industrial area.
Either way every station has plenty of lockers and some even go up to the size of a full suitcase so you don't have to worry about storage. This is true for some of the most remote stations in Japan, lockers, like toilets seem some of the basic facilities that all stations are equipped with.
I hope this helps!
Daniel
Thanks for your help, Daniel. :)
Daniel or Andrea,
My husband and I are planning to climb Mt. Fuji and I wanted to ask your advise about our luggage.
Our plan is to come in to Shin-Fuji station and store our luggage overnight in a locker. Is overnight storage possible?
Thank you in advance :)
Katie
Hi Katie,
Station lockers are generally for 48-72 hours. Be sure to read the sigh on them. So leaving your luggage overnight should not be a problem.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
