Hi - we (2 adults) are planning a wide ranging trip covering Tokyo to Kanazawa to Shiga, Kyoto, Okinawa, Otsu, Osaka plus at least 7 days on Shikoku and surrounding islands. Also a few days near Gifu walking. We will be in Japan 9 May - 9 June Should we get the 21 day pass or would it be better to buy individual regional passes?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

I wouldn't recommend buying several regional passes, it's likely that the overall cost would be a lot higher than purchasing a 21-day pass. Purchasing a single pass will also make organisation a lot easier and so I'd recommend this more - if you are making most of your train journeys in a 7 or 14 day window this may be more cost effective for you but it depends on the order of your itinerary.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
