Hi there.

This is my itinerary:

Arrive Narita: November 19
Fly Narita-Sapporo: November 20
Sapporo to Lake Toya: November 22 (Limited Express Hokuto)
Lake Toya to Hakodate: November 23 (Limited Express Hokuto)
Shin-Hakodate-Kyoto via Tokyo: November 24 (Gran Class Hakodate to Tokyo | Green Car Tokyo to Kyoto)
Stay Kyoto: November 24-28 with side trip to Himeji
Kyoto to Tokyo: November 28
Tokyo to Narita Airport: December 1 (Narita Express??)

A couple of questions:

What ticket needs to be purchased for the Gran Class travel between Shin-Hakodate and Tokyo?

Does the JR Pass now include Nozomi trains in Green Cars?

Given the above itinerary, is it worth getting a JR Pass?

Appreciate the help very much.

Cheers,
Phil.

Hi Phil,

Between Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate you’d need to purchase a ticket for a Hayabusa service of the Hokkaido/Tohoku Shinkansen. The Hayabusa is the only train that spans this length so it shouldn’t be too difficult to distinguish. If you plan on travelling with the Gran-Class you would upgrade accordingly.

The JR Pass does not include any Nozomi services, including in Green Class.

Due to the length of your itinerary and the fact that you plan on travelling upgraded to the Gran Class for your most expensive trip, I’d recommend purchasing your tickets individually given that you would have to purchase the Gran Class ticket separately.

Kind regards,

Alexis
