Hello,
I'm planning a two week trip to Japan with three friends in May 2014. Our tentative itineary is Osaka - day trip to Koyasan - Osaka - Kyoto - Nara - Takayama - Tenri - Osaka.
Does JR Rail these destinations or would it be more economical to use local trains? Thanks for your help.
Sue
JR Pass or not?
Hi Sue,
The difference is small but right now I think that it would be better to buy normal tickets as you travel. The most expensive part is Nara - Takayama (¥ 10,610) and Takayama - Tenri (¥ 10,820). The 7 Day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 meaning that you are not there yet, even with the local travel to Kyoto/Osaka. However if you decide to add more to your plan, then the JR Pass may quickly become worth it.
I hope this helps!
Daniel
