We plan to go From Kyoto to Hiroshima. Then Iwakuni to Kyoto. Then Kyoto to Kobe to Kyoto. Within the 7 day pass period. What should I buy?
JR Pass or individual tickets?
Hi there,
Lets first get a handle on your costs to see how they compare to that of a 7 day pass (¥28,300).
- Kyoto > Hiroshima: ¥10,990 (112mins, 380km)
- Hiroshima > Iwakuni: ¥740 (51mins, 41km)
- Iwakuni > Kyoto: ¥11,320 (194mins, 422km)
- Kyoto > Kobe(hyogo): ¥3,440 (55mins, 75km)
- Kobe(hyogo) > Kyoto: ¥1,050 (57mins, 75km)
JR ticket cost: ¥27,540 for 5 legs
As you can see your JR tickets are slightly less than the price of the 7 day pass. By choosing the 7 day pass option for an extra ¥760, you would maintain full travel flexibility for the 7 day period of travel, however the benefits of this will very much depend on how firm your plans are.
You can look up precise train timetables and costs at the Hyperdia travel planning website and learn how to use Hyperdia for JR Pass holders through our video blog.
Hope this helps!
