Hi,

I wish to visit Hokkaido from Tokyo.
Pls advise if there is any mid night train operating from Tokyo to Sapporo.
Pls advise do we need to transit to other train for journey from Tokyo to Sapporo.
If there is no mid night train, what is the earliest train from Tokyo to Sapporo. Which is the nearest station from Hamamatsucho station, Tokyo.
How many total hours will take from Tokyo to Sapporo.

Pls advise also on the return train schedule if available.
Wondering any interesting spot that we can stop by along the JR journey from Tokyo to Sapporo.

Thank you very much!

Hi there,

There are no (longer any) night trains going to Hokkaido. If you wish to travel there, we recommend using the Hokkaido Shinkansen. It takes about 7 hours for the full trip from Tokyo - Sapporo.

Some nice stops along the way include: Sendai, Matsushima, Yamadera, Hirosaki, Hakodate, Lake Biwa and more.

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
