Hi there,
We are planning on visiting Japan in March 2025 (2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 6). We are looking at between 10 and 14 days. So just wanted to work out the best JR pass to get and how to best work out the itinerary and if we should purchase a 7 day pass to make the most of the JR pass.
Flights would most likely be into and out of Narita airport and we are still finalizing the exact itinerary but it would most likely include Tokyo, Kyoto as the main attractions with possible side trip to Osaka, Nara and Nagoya.

I just wanted to see if you have any suggestions with the order of the itinerary to make best use of the JR pass? As I understand the normal train trips within Tokyo dont require the JR pass.

Thank you

Mark

Hi there,

The JR Pass will cover all of your itinerary, including the shinkansen tickets to Kyoto and Nagoya etc., and so a Pass may be a good option for you. It also will allow you to make use of day trips that can be quickly booked without the need to pay extra for tickets and seat reservations, however the choice is yours as it is likely that purchasing tickets individually will come out to a similar price.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
