Is the 14 day pass worth it if I only need 8 days of travel?

Hi!

My husband and I have a trip booked in May and I am not sure if I require the 7 or 14 day pass?

Our itinerary is
Arrive Narita Airport Wednesday 3 May and stay in Tokyo until on Sunday 7 May (5 Days)
Travel to Osaka on Monday 8 May and plan to go on day trips to Kyoto and Nara, maybe other places too and plan to return to Tokyo on Monday 15 May (8 days)
We will then stay in Tokyo and one day trip to Hakone and leave Tokyo on the 22 May (7days)

I think my best option is the 14 day pass but is it worth it? Would it be cheaper to buy single tickets to go to Osaka and back? and buy tickets locally to travel to Kyoto and Nara?

Thank you for any advice and information.

Hi there,

As it looks now, I think your best option would be to buy normal tickets. This because you need a pass longer than 7 days (Osaka part is 8 days) but won't travel enough for a 14-day JR Pass to be cost-effective.

A 7-day JR Pass would be worth considering, if you return to Tokyo one day earlier.

Kind regards,
Daniel
