Hello,

We will be travelling to Japan in October. Our plans to travel is as follow:

  • Arrive KIX airport
  • Tour Osaka city (1 day)
  • Day trip to Nara from Osaka (0.5 day) + return
  • Day trip to Kyoto from Osaka (1 day) + return
  • Trip to Kobe and Arima Onsen + return to Osaka
  • Train to Tokyo from Osaka (staying in tokyo for 2/3 days)
  • Train back to Osaka from Tokyo (we have to fly out from KIX)

Given the rough itinerary above, is it worthy to pickup a JR pass for 7 days?

Thank you in advance

Hi there,

Yes, a 7-day JR Pass will be worth it. The pass is similar is cost as a return ticket Osaka - Tokyo. Basically any additional travel is free :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much for your reply Daniel.

From my understanding, the JR Pass does not cover the fastest train from Osaka to Tokyo. How do we know which bullet train is covered by the pass? Is there a way to distinguish which train we should embark?

Thanks Daniel!

For the 7 day JR pass, do you know if they are activated and counted by the Day or Hour?
ie. If I activate my pass on Saturday 3pm, is it active until 2:59pm on the following Saturday?
