Hi!

In Japan for a week in mid Oct!

Travelling from Haneda to Tokyo and then doing day trips from Tokyo to Hakone and Kamakura :) I know it is too early for Autumn colours but really chasing the leaves :)

Is the JR rail pass worth it?

I thought about heading to Kyoto for 2 nights if I do that I'll def get the rail pass. However with only a week in Japan I thought it may be too ambitious what do you think?

Thank you!
Karli

Hi there,

People have done Kyoto as a day trip from Tokyo and still really enjoyed it! It depends on your own pacing and how much you want to take in. For the same token, you could spend months just in Tokyo exploring and never running out of things to see. In addition, it depends on your own priority list of what you'd want to see and do. I think you get the point :)

As for the JR Pass, YES - if you go to Kyoto. NO - if you stay in the wider Tokyo region (including Hakone/Kamakura).

Hope this helps,
Daniel

THank you! CANNOT WAIT! Flying into Haneda leaving late at night and the railpass office looks closed - if I purchase it now on line (before I arrive) can I collect the actual railpass anytime from JR rail office in Shinjuku train station?
