Hello,

5 of us will be traveling to Japan on 9/14/24. 4 of us will be staying 2 weeks and one of us will be staying 22 days. Here is our itinerary: Tokyo 3 nights, Kamakura 1 night, Hakone 1 night, Kyoto 5 nights (including 2 separate day trips, one to Osaka and one to Nara), Takayama 2 nights. After that 3 of us will return to Tokyo 1 night and return home on 9/28. One of us will spend 1 night in Toyama and return to Tokyo on 9/28 to fly home. The fifth person will be staying an extra 8 days as follows: Toyama 1 night, Kanazawa 2 nights, Hiroshima 2 nights, Kobe 2 nights, Koyasan 1 night, Haneda airport 1 night to return home on 10/6/24. Do you recommend that any of us get a rail pass? Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

It is likely that for your itineraries it is best to purchase your tickets individually. It may be worth looking into a Hakone FreePass online, as you’re spending one night there meaning that you can purchase the return ticket that gets you to and from Odawara.

Kind regards,

Alexis

Thank you for your response. Do you recommend the 3 day Hakone Freepass that starts in Shinjuku? Would we take it to Kamakura the first day and Odowara and Hakone the second day , then return to Odowara the third day?

Yes, Hakone FreePass is usually a very good option! Includes a lot of local travel in Hakone including ferry trips in nearby lakes.
