Hi there,

I am intending to purchase a 14 day JR rail pass for my time in Japan (I arrive on 30 Apr in Osaka, and will be there and in Kyoto until 3 May. Thereafter, my husband and I will be making our way through Wakayama, Mie, Aichi, Shizuoka and then finally Tokyo on 18 May). we intend to use the pass from 5 - 18 May.
itinerary as such:

5 - 6 May - Kyoto
7 - 9 May - Wakayama (up to Kii-Katsuura area)
10 - 11 May - Mie (either stay in Toba, Ise or Shima)
12 - 13 May - Nagoya area
14 - 17 May - Shizuoka (Fujinomiya and possibly Izu peninsula)
18 May - arrive in Tokyo.

I would like to know if the JR rail pass allows us to get around in the Wakayama and Shizuoka area, like the Ise-Wakayama-Kumano and Fuji-Shizuoka Tourist Passes? or are these regional passes better? i am considering the JR rail pass because we are crossing several prefectures, and I believe that it will be more economical to get from major cities (e.g. Kyoto to Shirahama, Toba to Nagoya to Shizuoka to Atami to Hakone to Tokyo).

Grateful for any advice! Thank you ;)

Hi there,

The JR Pass will offer the same rail transport as the two passes, but excludes the bus links each regional pass provides. If you are not planning on using the bus services but are rather planning on getting around predominantly by train, I would recommend purchasing a singular JR Pass rather than the two passes.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
