Trying to figure out if buying JR pass makes sense, like many people. Would be 3 adults, 1 child. We will primarily take public transportation within our destinations as well, which having the pass cover some/most of that would be easier.

11/3- Haneda to Tokyo
11/5 - Tokyo to Kyoto
11/8 - Kyoto to Hiroshima
11/9- Hiroshima to Hakone
11/11 - Hakone to Fuji Q
11/12 - Fuji Q to Tokyo
11/13 - Tokyo to Haneda

It seems Nozomi tickets cost the same as non-Nozomi tickets if you purchase individual tickets but cost more with the JR pass? (at least the individual ticket prices i looked at for comparison were the same - is that mostly the case?)

Hi there,

Yes, I would recommend purchasing a JR Pass for use between the 5th and 11th, and then purchasing the rest of your tickets individually.

Nozomi tickets are typically similarly priced but often sell out quicker because of demand - Purchasing a JR Pass is likely to be your most cost-effective option but bear in mind that it doesn’t include Nozomi tickets, however it is definitely not necessary as the other Shinkansen services are covered.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
