Please help us choose the best pass with this itinerary for later this month.

Day 1 arrive Haneda 6am and travel into Tokyo hotel
Day 2 day trip to Nikko and back to Tokyo
Day 3 Tokyo
Day 4 Tokyo to Nagano
Day 5 Nagano to Kanazawa
Day 6 Kanazawa
Day 7 Kanazawa to Takayama
Day 8 Takayama
Day 9 Takayama to Matsumoto
Day 10 Matsumoto
Day 11 Matsumoto
Day 12 Matsumoto to Hakone
Day 13 Hakone to Narita by 5pm for flight at 8pm

Will we need a Suica pass and a JR pass, please? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen,

I recommend using a 7-day JR Pass from Day 2 - Day 8, this is the period where you travel the most and can make the best savings using the JR Pass, it would also allow you to take the Shinkansen most of the way to Nikko, saving you a good bit of time there.

From Takayama - Matsumoto, I'd use the Takayama - Matsumoto bus and from there on you'd just buy normal tickets for the remaining time.

Having a Suica card is a good idea as well, to pay for any local transport not included in the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
