2ª Possibility
KANSAI AIRPORT – KYOTO

KYOTO – TAKAYAMA
TAKAYAMA – SHIRAKAWAGO
SHIRAKAWAGO – KANAZAWA

Reading your itinerary like this, the most cost-efficient option I can think of would be the Takayama - Hokuriku Area Pass. It would cover your travel to Takayama, Kanazawa and Shirakawago.
You could use it for either option.
