Hi there!

We will visit Japan from the 16th of March until the 5th of April. We have the following schedule and we were wondering if we could have any advice on whether or not buying a (regional) JR pass:
Narita airport arrival on the 16th of March - Tokyo - Magome - walk to Tsumago - Tsumago - Kyoto (incl. daytrips to Nara and Osaka) - Hiroshima - Kumamoto (incl. a daytrip to mt. Aso) - Okinawa (by plane from Kumamoto) - Tokyo (by plane from Okinawa on the 4th of April) - Leaving from Tokyo Narita airport on the 5th of April.

We would appreciate the advice on what kind of pass to buy for our trip!

Hi there,

Usually I would recommend the Kansai-Hiroshima pass, but since your trip is 21 days long, it may be beneficial for you if you were to purchase a 14-day JRPass (depending on how long you were to stay in Okinawa for).

This is because for the duration of your trip you are travelling in several different places across Japan. It may be worth looking into a regional pass around the Kansai region that you would use for the time spent in Hiroshima, Tokyo, Osaka, Nara etc. but it depends on how long you'd be staying there in total as the passes for that region go up to 5 days.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
