Hi,
Me and my wife are traveling to Japan for our honeymoon between the 1-15th of november.
Our route:

Day 1 :land in Osaka - overnight stay
Day 2: Osaka - Kyoto (3 days in kyoto), a possible day trip to Kobe
Day 5: Kyoto - Nara , Nara - Takayama (2 day stay)
Day 7: Takayama - Tokyo
Day 10 : Day trip to Hakone
Day 11: Day trip to Nikko

I am considering to buy a one week pass and activate it on day 5, does it pay off?
any better option?
what should I change or add to my trip to optimize it?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex!

I made a little breakdown of normal ticket prices to see if a 7 day JR Pass would be of help!

Starting at day 5:

Kyoto - Nara ¥ 690
Nara - Takayama ¥ 10,010
Takayama - Tokyo ¥ 14,000
Tokyo - Hakone (Odawara station, return) ¥ 6,260
Tokyo - Nikko (return) ¥ 10,460

For a total of ¥ 41,420 the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 so you would be saving around ¥ 13,120 which makes a JR Pass well worth it. In addition you won't have to purchase tickets every time you travel, making your trip very convenient.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
