Hello,

I will be going to Japan in April and I have an itinerary in mind.

I will arrive in Narita Airport and will need to go to Shinjuku. The first days I will want to go around Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Harajuku, etc)

Then the rest of the trip will be Hakone, Takayama, Osaka, Kyoto and Narita Airport again.

Any tips on how to make the most of my Japan Rail Pass to get to these destinations?

What should I do?

Thank you very much.

Hi there,

You'll already make great use of the JR Pass by going to Takayama, Osaka, Kyoto and back to Tokyo/Narita. That's really what the JR Pass is for: promote nationwide tourism!

As for tips:
1.) Reserve your seats ahead of time, this makes for a much more relaxed experience.
2.) Look where local JR lines run within cities, to get an idea of where you can go and safe on local transport. Our JR Map is great for this: jrpass.com/map especially for Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
3.) Enjoy Japan :)

Kind regards,
Daniel
