We have 2 Adults and 1 Child and looking at 14 Day JR pass.
Itinerary (approximate)
Day 1 Narita Airport
Day 2 Tokyo
Day 3-6 Hakuba
Day 7-8 Kyoto/Wazuka
Day 9 Hiroshima (day trip)
Day 10-12 Osaka
Day 13 Tokyo
Day 14 Narita Airport
Would the JR Pass be worth it and is upgrading to first class worth it for these train journeys (are the journeys long enough to need extra comfort and is there first class options on all trains anyway?)
14 Day JR Pass or Individual - Standard or Green
Hi there,
Green cars can be found on all Shinkansen and Limited Express lines. All of the lines you'll be travelling on will have first class options (even getting to and from Narita!). In terms of its value, it depends how much you prioritise cleanliness and comfort. Regular carriages are already comfortable, but the first class option is there for those who want to go that extra step.
More info on upgrading to a first class pass can be found here. A big reason to consider upgrading could be because of its added benefit for families, with the carriage having a more peaceful and stress-free environment.
Hope this helps!
Alexis
Thank you Alexis - and for these journeys is it worth having the pass as opposed to individual journeys?
I’ve into the JR calculator online and it says it’s not but I likely also haven’t factored in any local travel or extra day trips or ferries . I’m not sure what else we’ll need and our journey is spread out over the whole 14 days.
Hi there,
If it's spread out over all the days it's likely to be worth it when all journeys are considered - if you are planning on upgrading to the green car I would certainly recommend purchasing the pass instead of individual tickets.
Kind regards,
Alexis
