Can I use the unlimited pass to just ride the train to see places in Japan from the train (like Mt. Fuji or Nara)? In Tokyo, can I board a line of the JR and ride it back to the original boarding station?

Hi there,

Yes the JR Pass allows for unlimited travel on the JR nation wide. In some areas you may also find private railways that don't accept the JR Pass. For instance near Fuji you may want to use the Fujikyu line which is not covered. In general though the JR is almost everywhere.

We also have a map which all lines covered, it also tell you if an additional fare is required.

Hope this helps!
