Dear Sir

We are in Tokyo for 8 nights starting June 21 and from June 29 in Sapporo for 5 nights. Our plan is to go for day trips to Nikko, Nakamura and Mount Fuji we decide to go for a one day tour.

We would like to know whether we can use the Japan Rail Pass within Tokyo instead of Tokyo Metro.

In Sapporo we intend to purchase the 4 flex pass and will go to Furano for a night.

Will we be able to use the 4 flex pass to Furanao from Sapporo and to use to travel by buses within Sapporo?

We will also take a day trip to Otaru.

We can't decide whether to go with the above or just purchase a 14 day pass for 2 persons.

We appreciate your advice.

Hi there,

Before we get into the details, the most important question whether a JR Pass would help you make savings is if you travel by rail to Sapporo or any other way. The JR Pass works best on longer routes and you can make amazing savings compared to buying normal rail tickets to Sapporo.

The rest of your travel is all close to Tokyo/Sapporo and I would not suggest a JR Pass for only local travel.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
