If the train trip you are taking has a transfer do you have to get on your scheduled train at the transfer point, or can you can you catch a different one later, like if you decide to see more of a city you transfer through?

Hi there,
With the JR Pass you are free to hop-on and hop-off trains as much as you want, for example at a transfer point. If you have purchased tickets however you would need to repurchase tickets once you leave the JR station ticket barriers at the transfer location.
