Tokyo to Kyoto and Back in one day

Hi There,

I am traveling to Tokyo with some friends and we want to a do a long day trip to Kyoto. So I was wondering if there is a pass or ticket that we can use for and early morning to Kyoto and a late night ticket back to Tokyo? If so how much is it or do you think it would be best to purchase the 7day pass? We bought the 7 day pass last year but we only used it twice.
If there is such thing as a day pass what is the earliest and the latest time for the train?

Hi Lindsey.

You could use a 7 day JR Pass for this trip! The 7 day JR Pass is almost the same price as a return Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen and now you get 7 days of unlimited travel. Any additional travel you may do with it, basically is what you would save. Think of local JR lines in Tokyo, travel to and from the Airport or even a day trip somewhere.
