We're two adults visiting Japan for 2 weeks this month, and planning our itinerary now...we'll be in Tokyo for 4-5 days then hire a car to explore, heading north into the hills for about 4-5 days, before taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka where we'll base ourselves for our final 4-5 days, exploring Osaka, Nara and Kyoto, before flying home from Osaka...my question is should we buy a 7 or 14 day pass or should we just buy day metro passes for Tokyo then individual tickets for the trip from Tokyo to Osaka plus local train tickets once in Osaka? Huge thanks to those-in-the-know! Also, do we have to order our rail pass BEFORE we land in Japan (if we choose to go down that route!) or can we do it once we're there? Thank you
Tokyo-Osaka plus local travel
Hi there,
As I read it, your main travel by rail is a one way Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen right (plus local travel around Kansai)? This would not be enough for a JR Pass to be cost efficient. The JR Pass would have been a good option if you'd made a return Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen. As such, I'd just buy the tickets as you travel.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
