I need help! I am arriving in Tokyo Japan on March 25th and leaving April 4th. My flight arrive at Haneda Intl Airport around 8:30 pm the 25th of March and I plan to then travel directly to Mito-Ibaraki. Below see my travel plans. While I am in Mito I will be staying with family and hoping for some day trips-suggestions? Should I purchase a JR Railway pass, which one and for how many days? While I am in Tokyo I will be staying at the Centurion Hotel Residential Akasaka which I believe is near the Tokyo metra.

Day1-Tokyo Haneda Intl Airport to Mito - Ibaraki
Day2-Mito - Ibaraki
Day3-Mito - Ibaraki
Day4-Mito - Ibaraki
Day5-Mito - Ibaraki
Day6-Kyoto
Day7-Kyoto
Day8-Toyko
Day9-Toyko
Day10-Toyko
Day11-Toyko Haneda Intl Airport

Any suggestions for what to see or do Tokyo would also be appreciated.

Hi there,

I do recommend using a 7 day JR Pass. The price of a 7 day JR Pass is almost the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. From there, any additional travel you may do with it will help you make savings. Even if it is just local travel on JR lines in Tokyo and to Haneda Airport.

For some cool ideas on what to do in Tokyo and Kyoto, have a look at this itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Daniel-San,
Thank you for your answer but I do have more questions. When are you suggesting that I use the 7 day pass? I was wrong I am flying into Narita Airport. Can I use the JR Railways to go from Narita Airport to Mito?

Thanks again,
Nancy

Hi Nance,

I would start using the JR Pass before you travel to Kyoto, as this is one of the most expancive routes without a JR Pass. Day 5-11 is what I recommend. Mito does have a JR station.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
