We are planning on visiting Tokyo next April, and aren't sure if a JR Pass will be suitable for us or not.

Our plan is to fly to Tokyo and spend four nights there, then travel to Osaka for two nights, move on to Kyoto for four nights, then travel back to Tokyo for the last two nights before flying home.

Would we save money if we buy a JR pass, or would it be cheaper to buy the individual train tickets?

Hello there,

For this itinerary a 7 day JR Pass would be a good option. The 7 day pass itself is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. From there it's easy to make savings with any additional travel. Be it to within Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo.

It's also easy to make a day trip anywhere if the fancy takes you. For instance adding a visit to Nara or Nikko will be no problem at all.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
