Hi there

The JR Pass is aimed at shorter stay visits with usage periods of 7, 14 and 21 days and it may be hard to find something that really fits your needs.

What you could look into is see if you could plan a week full of travel and use a JR Pass for that. You can order a JR Pass online here if you wish to make use of one.

However you could just stay near Hiroshima and explore the local area. Hiroshima and surrounding area has a lot to offer in terms of interesting places and nature. Think about Miyajima which is one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, Iwakuni and Hagi.

I hope this helps!

Daniel-san, i will be able to plan a week of travel and use a pass during my stay in Onomichi , but now i need some specific sound advice. i would get either the 8 day Sanyo Line pass or the 7 day JR pass to visit Miyamija, Iwakuni, Naoshima, Takamatsu (w/o pass) and maybe Hagi. the prices are comparable but i can't find the regional pass on the web site anymore. which pass should I get?
Also, what do I need for the beginning and end of my trip, tickets from Tokyo to Onomichi, and return? i s there something for that, o r do i just buy tickets en route?
thank you. i need to place the order and have my voucher sent to Japan. I am leaving Monday Aug 19.

Hi Steve,

Here's a link to the Sanyo Pass. Looking at both tickets I do think that a 7 day JR Pass would be the better option, as it allows for travel on more train lines, such as to Takamatsu (if you would use a pass and Hagi. The downside this that is valid for one day less and you have to order it outside of Japan. If you do buy the JR Pass, please contact us directly at [email protected] so we can set-up the shipping to Japan.

Traveling from Tokyo to Hiroshima:
You have two options here:

Either buy a single train ticket each way for the Shinkansen which will set you back around 18,000Yen for one way or look into a [night bus] which is around JPY 7,600 ~ JPY 9,900 and saves you money on accommodation costs, the downside is that you may loose the next day due to fatigue if you can't sleep on the bus.

Have a great trip!
Daniel
