Hello

We are planning to go to Japan in late July- early August 2015 for around 10-14 days. We will be flying from the UK and planning to visit Tokyo, Tokyo Disneyland, Nikko, Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Osaka (USJ), Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Can you suggest the itinerary that is best to cover all these places please and also which rail pass should we get? We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children - the children will be 8,5 and 1 when we travel next year). Thank you for your help!

Hello there,

First off, that's a great selection of places to visit in Japan. What could be a challenge is fitting it all together in a 10 day itinerary, so I would advising trying to go for 14 days.

As a general itinerary you could consider the following route.

Tokyo, and make day trips from Tokyo to Nikko, Fuji and Disneyland.
Kyoto
Kanazawa
Osaka
Hiroshima and Miyajiama
Tokyo

This would allow you to visit all the places without unnecessary travel time. Also the JR Pass would work great, you could do all of your travel with it. Only for a visit to Fuji would you possibly require additional tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel for your reply. Do you think a 7 day pass is sufficient or I should get a 14 day pass?I was thinking if maybe I don't need the pass while in Tokyo and for the few days when we were in Tokyo. What do you think?

Hi again!

I would go for a 14 day JR Pass here, there is so much travel in here that it easily pays off and the 7 days of extra travel make for great flexibility. It also offers great value for just in Tokyo, as it is valid on local JR trains and great for day trips.
