I will be going to Osaka via bullet train and stay there for 2night before return to Tokyo for 8 night stay. Any advice that I should get a JR pass as there a total of 2 adult and 3 children age 11,8 and 4 year old.
Should I get a JR pass?
Hi there,
I recommend the use of a 7 day JR Pass for your itinerary. The JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.
Different prices apply for children, see:

Hope this helps,
Daniel
Thks for the advice, is this Jr pass cover the shinkansin that travel to and fro osaka or the newly launched Hokuriku Arch pass is better?
Do you mean the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo - Kanazawa? This route is covered by the JR Pass.
As i will be flying in on Monday morning via Sunday night flight, do I still have time purchase the JR pass? As for the Hokuriku Arch pass, i m referring to the new pass that travel from Tokyo to Osaka. But is this pass valid during my trip on 14 Dec to 16 Dec @ Osaka and 16 Dec to 24 Dec in Tokyo?
Hey, I've just looked up Hokuriku Arch pass as I was interested in it but I found out that it only starts in April 2016. You probably should get JR pass
