I'm traveling in May 2013. I will be traveling by train from Masawa to Kyoto and then to Tokyo.
Do I need a rail pass or reservations? What trains should I take?

Hi there,

Do you mean Misawa?

If so then a 7Day JR-Pass is a great option for your travels!

You can take the following Route 1 to Kyoto. Please note that the first part by the Aomori raiway is not covered by the JR-Pass.

From Kyoto to Tokyo you can take the Shinkansen directly.

Also please make sure you are eligible for the JR-Pass (eg you enter Japan under a tourist visa and not military etc).

Hope this helps,
Daniel
