Our itinerary is
18 October arrive Narita and need to get into Tokyo
20 October train to Matsumoto
21 / 22 October Takayama , kamikochi
23 /24 October Kanazawa via shirakawa and gokayama
25 October train from Kanazawa to Kyoto
26-30 sightseeing around Kyoto
31 October train to Nagoya then bus to nakatsugawa and onto magome (overnight stay)
1 November bus return to Nagoya
2 November train to odawara
3 November day trip to hakone
4 November train to Tokyo
5-7. Sightseeing around Tokyo area
8 November train to Narita airport

When we are in Tokyo and Kyoto we plan to use trains to do our sightseeing and day trips

Hope you can advise me on the best rail passes to buy

Hi there,

I did the math and counted how much tickets prices would cost on this route and I think the best option is to buy normal rail tickets. The cost of a 14 day JR Pass would be more than tickets on this route and a 7 day JR Pass would simply not be long enough.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.
