HI,

I would like to seek advice on what would be the cheapest and relatively fast route to travel through those places? I'm not sure if I should use the JR pass or whatever pass you have for my travel.

I would arrive in Narita airport on 23Dec morning and would like to head straight to Osaka for 3 days and then travel straight to Nozawa onsen. There i will stay maybe 2 nights and then travel to Tokyo through the rest of the stay and back again to Narita for departure.

Would I need to change to buses etc to get to the ski resort? How long would the journeys take me individually?

Would you advise me if I should get any of the train pass? Would you be able to break down for me the cost please?

Many thanks for the help.

Hello Kat Lee,

You will be covering plenty of miles (or KM if you prefer) using rail travel and the 7 day JR Pass will help you make considerable savings.

Here's a quick breakdown of tickets prices you'd pay without a JR Pass:
Narita Airport - Osaka ¥ 17,100
Osaka - Nozawa Onsen (Station name is Togari-Nozawa-Onsen) ¥ 12,800
Nozawa Onsen - Tokyo ¥ 9,150

For a total of ¥ 39,050 or ¥ 9,950 savings with the 7 day JR Pass (¥ 29,100). You can find ticket prices, travel times and other route information using Hyperdia. If you look up Nozawa in Hyperdia, use the station name:TOGARINOZAWA-ONSEN

You may also have to use buses to access your ski resort, this depends on the resort and it is best to check their website directly.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi again!

The JR Pass is also valid for the JR local network in Osaka and you can use it to access most of the city. I suggest taking the train to JR Namba and walk from there (5-10min) to dotonbori.

thanks for the reply. Another final query-- I will also be in Tokyo so can that JR pass be used for travel for the subways? I.e Omotesando station to Jiyugaoka stations or Ueno for the Skytree etc etc...?

Hi again!

The Metro is not covered by the JR Pass. You can however use JR trains to travel to most places in Tokyo. For instance, Omote-Sando is within 5min walk from Harajuku station and Ueno has its own JR station.

always very prompt response Daniel! :)

Would the Hyperdia app help me with the navigating through the JR trains then? Or is there a better app that would help facilitate full utilisation of the JR Pass?

Hi Daniel-san. I finally received my JR Pass. While i was planning my route, got abit confused as to which stations i should be dropping off, so need your confirmation and assistance here.
a) Please advise nearest JR stations to and from for me to search through Hyperdia app.
b) Please advise journey time approximate

I need to get to these destinations from the points listed below:
1) Narita Airport Terminal 1 to Osaka, Nippombashi station
2) Osaka, Nippombashi station to Myoko Kogen in Niigata
3) Myoko Kogen station to Ikejiri-ohashi, Tokyo

Greatly appreciate the help :)
