My husband and 10yr old son will be arriving and departing Osaka. We'd like to go to Tokyo and Kyoto. Is it economical to get JR Pass? Can you help with itinerary? My son wants to see Disneyland and Samurai. I'd like to go to Universal Studio and temples in Kyoto. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Hi there,

The JR Pass would already pay of by making a return Osaka - Tokyo, so I would certainly recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your travel and also covers travel to Kyoto, Universal Studio and even Disneyland.

I would recommend visiting Disneyland when you stay in Tokyo, because it is very close.

If your son wants to see a Ninja village, consider a visit to the Iga Ueno Ninja Museum. You can travel there from either Osaka or Kyoto.

For Temples in Kyoto, be sure to visit Kiyomizu-Dera. This is of the of most beautiful temples in Kyoto and offers a very beautiful view over Kyoto city. I would also recommend a visit to Fushimi Inari, I think that both you can your son will enjoy the experience of the countless tori gates!

I hope this helps!

Thank you Daniel. This is very helpful.
We are booked to arrive Osaka 8th of January and leave Osaka on the 15th.
Sorry to have more questions.
How long will it take to send the passes to New Zealand?
Also, which onsen would you recommend during our stay either near Tokyo or near Osaka and where we can use the JR pass?

Thanks again for your suggestions. We will definitely heed your advice.

Hi Again!

We dispach your JR Pass using Fedex Express, this is very speedy and reliable, it takes about 3 days to ship to New Zealand..

For an onsen visit, consider Kurama Onsen near Kyoto, this onsen is one of the more hidden onsen in Kyoto and located in a very beautiful area. There's also a beautiful mountain temple close by and you can take the cable car up the mountain.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
