Hi!

I have seen some travel agencies that organize trips to HAKONE AND MOUNT FUJI.(includ. transportation with Shinkansen etc) We have Japan Rail Passes. Is there a travel agency that just offer the package without the Train fares?

Hi there,

I am not aware of any agencies that offer a trip without transportation. However it is not to hard to plan a trip to Hakone or Mount Fuji yourself.

Hello,

There actually is, but as noted above, why would you? It is far more enjoyable to go where you want, when you want, and for how long you want. Not every place the tour goes may be someplace you are interested in, and if there is someplace you want to go but it is off the tour, you are pretty much out of luck. A regional pass from Odakyu can save you a lot of money in the area, and if you don't plan to go to somewhere else for it, going to a hot spring in Japan is well worth it at least once and there are some good places in Hakone to do so. There are many websites that describe the sights of Hakone, so just do a search for Hakone Loop.

Best of luck.

Hi Toraneko and thanx for Your info!

Since we are having a day trip from Tokyo, we were thinking to make the best out of the trip. Thats why I was thinking about organized day tour. I have seen the travel agencies offer something like this that seems quite interesting:

Mt.. Fuji 5th Station (30 min)

Start the ascent up Mt. Fuji via the Fuji Subaru Line. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 ft) above sea level for breathtaking views from above the clouds.

Lunch

Lake Ashi Cruise (15 min)
Go for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi, from Kojiri to Hakone-en.

Mt. Komagatake Ropeway (50 min)

Spend a total of 50 minutes including a 7-minute cableway ride up to the spiritual Hakone Shrine Mototsumiya (original shrine) that nestles at the mountaintop.

Do you think we are able to visit these Places on our own?

Your suggestions are appreciated:)

Best regards

Hi,
You can certainly do it on your own. You will hardly be the only foreign tourist there by any means, so getting info when you need it is not hard.

The real question is though - are you really ready and willing to climb Mt Fuji? Some people due it in the summer - but the peak is 3,776m (12,388 ft), where oxygen is very thin and many suffer headaches and problems while trying to go up the steep climb to the top. It is also very cold up there, needless to say. If your interest is more in seeing the iconic mountain, then instead of climbing it, you should look into going to Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes Area. But if you have the climbing experience and stamina, some people climb at night to see the sunrise at dawn.
The weather is notoriously fickle though and sometimes shrouded in clouds. If you go to Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes Area, at least there are many other interesting places and things to see and do.

It is all up to you.

Best of luck.
