Hello,

I plan on making 3 week trek to Japan and will be using the JR rail pass.

During this time do I get a 1st class or regular? I want to save the $ if possible but willing to get the green.

I will go traveling to Mount Fuji, Kyoto,Osaka, Nara, Nikko, Osaka, Mount Koya, and Miyajima. Please advise.

Thanks

Hi there,

I think I would stick to ordinary (2nd) class for this trip. Since you will do a good amount of local travel as well and there is no Green Class in local trains. Additionally Green Class between Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka is not as spectacular as it is in other parts of Japan (Namely Kyushu, Tohoku and Hokkaido). So you may as well save some on transport and enjoy a good dinner somewhere (I'd go for Kobe Beef!).

Hope this helps!
