Hi there
We are booked to ski Nowaza Onesen 2-10 Jan.
This is our first time to Japan. We have a 12 and 14 year old.
We were going to come to Tokyo 29 dec before skiing but have been discouraged by friends as many tours etc are shut down over New Years. It also seems really expensive for accommodation.
So other option is to visit Tokyo after skiing. We are really keen to see Kyoto also but I am really confused at how to include Kyoto with having to lug ski gear etc. we could only allow 5 days. Would we go Nowaza onesen, Kyoto, Tokyo?

Or if we did arrive 29 Dec, would you suggest Tokyo or Kyoto first?
I am trying to be as cost effective. Thank you!

Hi there,

I'm not sure what to do the gear either, you could contact a luggage company and store it within Tokyo for a couple days before going to Kyoto. You could also rent your gear at the resort and not carry any (or bare minimum) with you.

If you do want to do Kyoto, then I would go skiing first and use a 7-day JR pass to cover Nozawa Onsen - Tokyo - Kyoto - Tokyo. This would be the most cost effective way of doing things.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
