hello! I am planning on leaving Osaka on the evening of 4/4 and arrive Tokyo morning of 4/5. I didn't know if there's a safe bus brand I should stick to? and how far in advance do I need to book the ticket?
Q#2 how far in advance do I need to purchase ticket for the universal studio Japan in Osaka?
Q#3 I am planning on staying Kyoto for 2 and half days...just curious what is the local recommendation for must see and eats? :D

You could fly with a low cost carrier like JetStar for as low as ¥6,290 and be in Tokyo in an hour. Why be cooped up on a bus all night?
because I couldn't find a hotel for that night...bad planning on my part.

Accommodations indeed seem sold out anywhere near Kyoto for the begin of April.
Going to bus tickets, there are multiple bus companies and I think most are reliable. You could go for the JR Express bus and the cheaper Willer Express. I've used both in the past. Tickets should be reserved as soon as you can, as prices go up closer to the departure date.
2.) I think that you can just buy them at the door, although it may be smart to purchase them in advance if you go during a holiday period or weekend.
3.) A couple of recommendations for Kyoto, Kyomizudera tempel, Nishiki Market, Goin, Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari area all well worth visiting.
