Hi my family of 5 will travel to Japan from 7-14 Dec 15. our itinerary is Narita-Tokyo-Hakone-Takayama-Tokyo-Narita Airport. I would like to know what is the best way to travel to reach my destination? By JR Pass or other alternatives?

Hi there,
I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass for this itinerary. A return Tokyo - Takayama alone is 29,840yen, this alone is more than the price of a 7 day JR Pass (29,110). With the JR Pass any additional travel on the JR is also covered, include the Narita Express to Narita Airport and local JR lines in Tokyo.
It will also make travel a lot more convenient, because you don't have to buy separate train tickets for your whole family, each time that you get on the train.
