Hi Good Day!

If i reached Nagoya at 14 jan and stay around this area or Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe and then go for Shirakawago for the night lit event, after which i proceed to Hiroshima and stay there for a night to visit the museum as well as Miyajima. Back to Osaka for few days, proceed to Nagano for the monkeys, Matsumoto Castle, stay in Zenkoji for a day or two, proceed to Yamagata stay there for a night to Mt Zao and Kamo Aquarium, then to Nikko for a night stay and to Tokyo for the rest of the trip.

my trip would most likely be 9-12days. I should get a jr pass? at which point should i activate my jr pass? are there any places that i should visit at this period or places i should avoid?

Thank you,
Anne

Hi there,

You have quite a variety of places included in your travel plan and a JR Pass works great here for travel between Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagano, Nikko in Tokyo. In fact you'll do so much travel that I recommend using a 14 day JR Pass for your trip (even if you won't use it every day).

You can start using the JR Pass right away, since you'll be traveling around 12 days.

I also recommend making a stop over at Takayama, this is a very pretty town and has easy bus access to Shirakawa-go.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
