Hello, We will be visiting Japan for two weeks. Flying into Tokyo NRT on Sept 4th and departing Tokyo NRT on September 19th. We will be going to Kyoto for 7 nights and while there want to see Hiroshima and a few side trips. From there off to Hakone for two nights then to Tokyo for 5 nights. Wanted to know if there are additional considerations for purchasing the Green Pass verses the regular pass. Someone told me they thought you always had to have a reservation to use the Green Pass, you could not just get on the train. Also looking where I can find train schedules in english. Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers, Christopher
JR Rail, questions on Green verses Regular pass
Hi Christopher,
Please see this page for the JR Pass Green Class advantages. As for Seat reservations, there are only a limited amount of Green Seats available on each train. To make sure all 1st class passengers are seats, prior reservations are required. These can be made for free at any JR Ticket window/ station using your pass.
You can of course hop on the train as well, in that case however you are supposed to use a Non-reserved seat.
Kind regards,
Daniel
