Can you advise if it is more cost effective to purchase the JR Pass before we arrive to Japan or purchase regional tickets as we travel around
We are travelling to Osaka then Kyoto then Negano and then Tokyo
Please give best advice for ease of travel. Convenience and cost comparisons

I would suggest purchasing your tickets individually as it is likely to be your most cost-effective option, but a JR Pass would cover your itinerary so it depends if you want to spend a bit more to improve organisation.
