Hi Thomas,

That sounds like an amazing idea to do with your sons! (wish my father would do the same).

Looking at your planned itinerary, I would recommend a combination of a 7 Day JR Pass, for travel between Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka and supplement it with a [Suica + N'EX] package for travel to and from Narita Airport.
The Suica cards would also be great for your first couple of days in Tokyo to covers your local travel with.

On to things to see and do:
Be sure to visit Akihabara, the Otaku home of Japan. Here you can find all kinds of gadgets, electronics and everything manga related. It's a great experience, even if you don't have a real interest in that kind of things.

Try out some Ramen this is one of my favorite foods in Japan, a good bowl does not have to be pricey at all. It's great food for a man!

Visit Fushimi Inari near Kyoto, this is a great area to sniff some culture, there are also great hikes to be made around here.

Let me know your interests and I can give you some more specific recommendations!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I was a bit confused reading about different types of travel passes, But with your help i am ready to booked what you have suggested.

We Love FOOD, we don't mind eating at food stall or market stalls as long its eatable and tasty.

My son's would enjoy skiing and snow boarding as beginners even for one day. Ages 19, and mid twenties. They are into Car Museums.

My wife Love scenery, sights, Departmental stores,

We will be in Osaka 4 days, I am still undecided whether to visit Kobe day return to try the Famous Kobe beef, Is it worth it.

Your recommendations has been added to my checklist ( Must Do and See : )

I really appreciate your response.

Thanks again,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

If you like Sashimi, head to the Tsukiji Fish Market at an early morning in Tokyo. You can try Sushi from the latest catch, it does not get any fresher!

An other must try is Okonomiyaki. Known as ''Japanese pancake'' it's a little hard to explain the details but it's delicious. Both Osaka and Tokyo have their own versions, so try one in both cities (the one is Tokyo is also known as Monjayaki).

If you are up for some snow fun, head up to Gala Yuzawa. This snow resort makes for a great day trip from Tokyo, the train there is also covered by the JR Pass!

A day trip to Kobe is certainly well worth your time, there are many wonderful things tot see and do. One of my personal recommendations is to head up to Mount Rokko with the cable car to see the sunset and see Kobe light up, while enjoying a romantic dinner at one of the local restaurants. I think that your wife will love it too!

Lastly if your wife loves department stores, head to Ginza near Tokyo station!

Hope this gives you some ideas :)

PS: Kobe beef is amazing but your wallet may not like it as much as you do!
