Is it worthwhile for me to get the JR Pass with this itinerary?

Hi,

I will be travelling in Japan for approximately 10 full days, with the following itinerary:

Tokyo - arrival at Narita, 5 full days, with urban travel within Tokyo and possibly short day trips to the outskirts of Tokyo
Osaka - 5 full days, with day trips to Kyoto and Nara, departure from Kansai

Would it be worthwhile for me to at least get the 7-day JR Pass?

Thanks!

Hi there,

With the above itinerary I would stick to normal tickets. The JR Pass if great if you travel between different regions of Japan using the Shinkansen (the bullet trains) at least twice. In the above itinerary this is limited to a way one trip between Tokyo - Osaka and the JR Pass would not help you make savings. Local travel around Tokyo and in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto and Nara) is not expensive either.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
