Hi all!

The following is my itinerary:
1. Arrive at Tokyo Narita
2-3-4. Tokyo (maybe day trip to Nikko and Fuji)
5. Takayama
6-7-8-9 Kyoto (day trip to Nara and bamboo forest)
10. Koyasan
11 Tokyo

Do you think we should take the 7 or 14 days Japan Rail Pass? Any suggestions on how to get to Koyasan from Kyoto and to Tokyo from Koyasan? Do you have any other suggestion about our trip?? :D

Many thanks!

Ilaria

Hello Ilaria,

Ideally I would use a 7 day JR Pass for travel from Tokyo - Takayama - Kyoto and back to Tokyo. It would even be better if you could include a visit to Nikko with it as well, because these are the most expansive routes to travel.

For travel to Koya-san, my recommendation would be to use local JR lines to travel from Kyoto to Shin-Imamiya station in Osaka and transfer there to the Nankai express bound to Gokurakubashi (the station for Koya). The JR Pass does not include travel after Shin-Imamiya station.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi !
Many thanks! !!
But how can I include a visit to Nikko in my JR Pass? Further, the visit would be before I activate JRPass.
Thanks!

Hi again,

It may require a little bit of planning or you could visit Nikko as a day trip and travel on the same day to Kyoto. Its not ideal but it would work best when looking at cost savings.
