Hi there!

The Haruka & ICOCA ticket is a great start if you arrive at Kansai Airport. You can use the ICOCA card to travel between Kyoto - Nara and all other JR stations within Kansai. The ICOCA is also valid on the Kyoto Subway and other local train companies (exept for en Ezan railway in the north of Kyoto). Buses are not yet covered (this is planned for 2015) but you can buy an All day Bus Pass which is 500yen, this is a great deal as normal bus rides are 220 yen / each.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
