Hi,

Two friends and and I will be travelling in Japan in early Feb. We would like to minimize baggage hassle by taking side trips from Tokyo and Kyoto. We are flexible but would like the most economical route and maximize the use of Rail Passes. Our idea is below

Feb 7: 3:30 PM Arrival at Narita, Tokyo
Feb 8: Tour Tokyo
Feb 9: Day Trip to Nikko from Tokyo
Feb 10: Day Trip to Kamakura from Tokyo
Feb 11: Day Trip to Mt. Fuji from Tokyo
Feb 12: Tokyo to Kyoto
Feb 13: Tour Kyoto
Feb 14: Tour Kyoto
Feb 15: Day Trip to Nara from Kyoto
Feb 16: Day Trip to Hiroshima/Miyajima from Kyoto
Feb 17: Kyoto to Tokyo - Tour Tokyo
Feb 18: Tour Tokyo
Feb 19: 6:30PM Departure from Narita, Tokyo

Thanks. Your help is much appreciated.

Hi there,

I think you could make great use of a 7 day JR Pass here. Especially if you can include travel to Nikko with it as well.

In order to do so, consider changing visiting Fuji and Nikko around and start using the JR Pass on Feb 11th.

The rest of your itinerary looks great, adding Hiroshima does add a bit of extra travel time but you also get to see one of the best visits in Japan.

Enjoy your trip!
Daniel
