Hi we want to go from Tokyo to Takayama then onto Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and back along the coast. Are we better to go to Takayama first from Tokyo then onto Kyoto or on way back after Hiroshima? We want to travel at night also so does the train have sleeping cars?

Hi there,

I think it would make most sense to visit Takayama from Tokyo and then travel on the Kyoto. This because travel from Hiroshima is a lot longer to Takayama and it already is a long trip to make.

In Japan there are nearly no night trains left, because the super fast Shinkansen are used a lot more these days. Generally you will have to travel by day.

Thank you!
Daniel
